Aurea Visit 2012

Day One: Thursday July 5th

arrival 1

The Camerata Musica Aurea are a Cuban choir on a tour to Britain. On Thursday July 5th we greeted them at Nottingham Station before taking them back for lunch at one of our houses.

That evening they were guests of honour at a Civic Reception in Nottingham's Council House, and after a couple of songs from us, they showed us just what a real choir sounds like.

Day Two: Friday July 6th

Day Two started with a workshop at Bigwood School for pupils from Bigwood and three local primary schools, culminating in a concert in the new hall at Bigwood.

In the evening they sang at a fantastic sell out concert at the Lakeside Recital Hall, from an incredibly wide repertoire of songs from the baroque to contemporary Cuban. Everyone was blown away by their performance and they left to a rapturous standing ovation.

Then back to hosts houses - with an early night for some - and partying into the early hours for others

Day Three: Saturday July 7th

clarion garden party

Day three had a more leisurely start, with opportunities for sightseeing and shopping in Nottingham - and photographs at the Robin Hood statue.

In the afternoon it was the annual Nottingham Cuban Organic Garden Party. Remarkably, the sun came out before the Clarion Choir sang, followed by another scintillating performance from the Aurea choir. Later in the afternoon a massive hailstorm finally brought an end to a great party.

The day was rounded off with a party and ceilidh with live music at the Ukranian Centre.
