some of what we got up to in 2015

The message came via the website - it seemed a little obscure but wetted the interest of choir members. The Nottingham Contemporary was putting on an exhibition called the Grand Tour - about the Duke of Devonshire and Chatsworth House. Could there be an answer from the people?

And so the "People's History in Verse and Song" was born. On the day a baroque string quartet played well to polite interest, contemplative silence and earned applause. Then the answer came...

The Red Flag rose and echoed like thunder from the stair well. After, songs of Diggers, Shelly's poetry, readings from accounts of rebellions long ago, Tolpuddle Martyrs celebrated and Luddites explained. Songs and readings from more recent struggles over votes for women and working class representation put Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire firmly at the centre of peoples' struggle against injustice and quite often the Duke of the time.

So an answer indeed.

We will be taking the show out for further performances. If you would like information about booking it, or want to know about future performances, contact us here

Nottingham Light Nights

We sang in the Long Gallery of Nottingham Castle as a part of the Nottingham Light Night in early February.

Booked too late to go in the programme, we anticipated singing to a couple of friends and supporters and possibly a ghost or two. But the gallery was packed, and we sang to a large and appreciative audience, helped hugely by the great acoustics of the gallery.
