About 50 Clarion members and others came together on Saturday 16th February in the Friends Meeting House in Nottingham to discuss this question.

Topics discussed included:

  • Practical support and fundraising for Cuba and Hait following Hurricane Sandy
  • The name and identity of the Clarion Choir
  • Developing political street theatre with song
  • Flash mobs and singing at political events
  • Linking with other choirs in Nottingham
  • Linking with young people and students
  • Participatory society
  • Song composition
  • Exploring the power of music and song
  • Singing and song for the elderly and for mental health
    • A recurring theme was exploring how the choir might become more visible with a greater political impact, while also becoming more diverse and connected with the many different communities in and around Nottingham

On Saturday July 27th we were back outside Nottinghamshire's County Hall with something to celebrate!

Four years ago, when the Tories came to power in the County, in an act of vindictive vandalism they removed the memorial plaque to the International Brigadeers who fought for the Spanish Republic. We protested and sang at the time - to no avail. But now, four years later, the Tories have been kicked out, and the incoming Labour administration reinstated the memorial in a moving ceremony. Let's hope we're not back in another four years protesting its removal again....
